Weye USB Eye mask

Photo nicked from weye's site

I struggle with dry eyes, and have for a few years now. Some of it may due to age, but quite a bit probably stems mostly from the LASIK I had done about 15 years ago.

After the surgery, I had a hellish 2–3 months, going through a bottle of eye drops every couple of days. Until I had punctal plugs installed I was in extreme discomfort and had problems seeing even though my vision was technically the best it had ever been. After they blocked up my tear ducts with a little silicon plug, the dry eye basically disappeared.

Only for my eyes to turn into a desert again about a decade later. I had my ducts plugged up again in 2019, but this time it only somewhat helped. So I tried eye drops, eye gels, E-Eye IPL treatment, and finally ended up using an eye mask heated in the microwave.

Using heated mask on for 10 minutes helps unblock the meibomian glands, however, it is a bit of a faff, and even though it really did make quite a difference, I found it hard to turn into a habit. Just too much friction.

Fast-forward 5–6 years later and my eyes are still dry, and heating up eye glands is still in vogue. I found a USB powered mask from Weye, and considering it was not too expensive1, decided to give it a try.

I've used it for a week now, and am starting to feel a slight difference. I know from experience it can take a while to unblock those glands, so I am quite pleased to notice anything at all yet.

The mask heats up quickly and well, but as it's a bit big for me, isn't the most comfortable thing I've ever worn. It also lacks the pleasing weight upon the eyelids that the BlephaEyeBag microwaveable mask offers.

There is a lot less friction in the use of it. I just need to choose temperature and time, pop mask on and have a nice rest while listening to podcasts as the mask does its thing. Hopefully the habit will form this time around. Crossing all beans it does!

  1. The Norwegian price I paid is approximately twice that of the one that Weye lists 🥳
