Art

January 1st, 2024 I made a New Year's resolution to learn to draw, and so far, I've managed to draw every day. I keep a list of links to various art resources, and update it with new stuff as I find it. I also collect various art books, and occasionally review them. (The instructional ones as opposed to artist's art books.)

Daily Drawings

I started out spending hours a day drawing, and I still draw a lot, but what I actually committed to was to make at least one intentional mark on a piece of paper (well, digitally anyhow) every day. I've improved somewhat, but I'm still extremely far away from my goal. However, if nothing else I'm still doing it, and that alone is something to be chuffed about. I post a drawing every day.

Digital, very sketchy, gesture drawings of seventeen different nude figures in various poses. Digital graphite sketch of a leopard stalking towards the viewer. Digital graphite sketch of a hand, palm down and with fingers splayed outwards.

99% of what I draw is done in Procreate on an iPad Air 13-inch (M3) using an Apple Pencil Pro. I use paper from True Grit Texture Supply's Infinite Pulp collection, and I usually use either the HB Pencil V1 from the Drawing Box brush set by Sadie Lew, or the Echidna brush from the (new) default Procreate pencils.

Sketchbook

I keep a digital sketchbook, and post the pages blog every month.

Portfolio

Anything I'm “happy” with gets added to my portfolio.

Digital study of a crested bird’s skull. The skull is placed on a draped, dark fabric background. Digital gouache study of a woman's face. Digital drawing of an orange poppy, seen from below, stretching up against a blue sky
